The shock absorber is used to mitigate the impact of jarring, turbulence or vibrations on sub surface electronic instruments during the setting, or pulling procedures.

Applications:
Used to mitigate jarring vibrations when setting sub surface instruments on a lock mandrel utilizing and instrument hanger.
Used to mitigate vibration on subsurface instruments if an exceptionally high flow rate is expected.
